Stressed about Finals?
Don't let the end of the year get the best of you. Here are some fool-proof techniques to keep your cool, and to get the best grades!
- Take breaks! It's been proven that if you study for an hour, and take a 15-minute break, doing a non-intellectual activity, your brain will be able to better absorb the information you just learned.
- Eat well. Although quick snacks and sugar-sweetened beverages can be very convenient, try to eat wholesome, nutrient-rich foods which will promote learning. Staying hydrated and nourished will help you in the long run!
- Exercise! Talking a walk, hitting the gym, doing some yoga, or even just dancing around your room can help release tension, and encourage the learning process for when you do sit down to study.
- Remember to laugh! Joking around with a friend, or watching a funny show has been shown to relax the mind during stressful periods. Take quick breaks, and get a little laugh in.
- Avoid cramming the night before. Ever feel as though your brain can't hold any more information? It's probably because it can't -- in one night! Spread out studying as much as possible; new material is usually lost after 24 hours of learning it for the first time. Give yourself enough time to absorb what you need to know!
- Right before the exam, take a deep breath!
